I’m sure many people have heard that the Alberta government is planning on their Stage 2 of reopening of businesses and other services. Their goal date is June 22, 2020. Tutor Doctor supports either in-home or online tutoring and states that in-home tutoring must be agreeable to both parties.
I’m pleased with online tutoring so far for a few reasons, and I hope you are as well. Some benefits of online tutoring:
- The audio and whiteboard setup lets students focus more on what is happening in front of them and typically allows for less distraction.
- There is less setup time with online tutoring. This includes my driving time.
- Class plans & homework is put online faster.
- Scheduling is more flexible.
- You have a recorded session to see how we’re doing.
- For those of you with online linked printer / scanners, your homework is scanned & uploaded to me, and your new homework is printed automatically.
- Students don’t have to read Allan’s write up-side-down writing. (Haha.)
Some difficulties:
- Bramble sometimes disconnects. With thousands of students & teachers working online now, their servers are a little overloaded at times.
- Writing with a mouse can be challenging, to say the least. It’s not ideal.
Some solutions are:
- You can test-drive the Huion drawing tablet for a session to see if you’d like to buy your own. Just let me know.
- I’m working on my own online whiteboard software on my own server. It can be tweaked to serve our particular needs. It will be ready soon.
- In the future, I could visit the students’ home every now and then.
- I still have one loaner printer left if anyone needs it.
Do you have a preference – online or in-person? Please let me know what you think.
